DR. CUI IS ON THE CASE

In order to know how to treat Mitchell Syndrome effectively, we need to understand what it is. Dr. Selena Cui, Neurology Resident at WashU in St. Louis, is on the case. At last week’s Neurology Academic Symposium at Farrell Hall, she presented a poster titled, “Characterizing the Clinical Features of Mitchell Syndrome.” With the assistance of WashU’s neurology team and Mitchell and Friends Vice-President Michele Herndon, Dr. Cui--who is set to beging a Neuromuscular Fellowship at WashU this summer--seeks to “understand the phenotypic spectrum and clinical progression of Mitchell Syndrome.” As part of this natural history study, her poster presents findings from twenty confirmed cases of Mitchell Syndrome—types of symptoms and age of appearance. Any future research and pharmaceutical treatment will depend on these findings.

We are grateful to Dr. Cui, her team, and the Mitchell Syndrome patients and families who are collaborating to expand our understanding of this illness. With her expertise and the participation of all involved, we can defeat the rarest of rare diseases.
